« LOVE AND DEATH, PASSION, POLITICS AND DISILLUSION IN THE SHADOW OF THE FRENCH REVOLUTION: A SCORE OVERFLOWING WITH EMOTION »
The opera
HALFWAY BETWEEN A HISTORICAL DETECTIVE THRILLER AND A DRAMA OF LOVE AND JEALOUSLY
This adventurous and passionate masterpiece by Umberto Giordano is inspired by the life of French Poet André Chénier. In a score full of powerful, world-famous melodies (from Un Dì All’azzurro Spazio to La Mamma Morta), the narrative builds to a searing climax leaving the audience breathless. The story offers a disenchanted look on the aftermath of the French revolution. The ideals of Liberté, égalité and fraternité have not been put into practice. Only love remains, and it will lead our heroes to their tragic end.
