A Big Party
It is a much-awaited global event that attracts over fifteen thousand people every year. But Teatro del Silenzio is also like a great party every time, not only for the audience, but also for the artists and for myself first of all. I was born in Lajatico, this is my home. It feels like inviting artists and the audience for a big party at my place.
Big Names in the Tuscan Hills
Thanks to Teatro del Silenzio, these Tuscan hills that I have explored for my entire life, on foot or on horseback, were visited and appreciated by many guests including Placido Domingo, Josè Carreras, Zubin Mehta and Lang. We also had famous personalities in the audience, from Steve Jobs to Sharon Stone, Natalie Portman and royal families from around the world. Everyone was fascinated by the context, driven by a desire to listen to good music and to enjoy the landscape.
The Woodstock of Opera
It was an ambitious project from the very beginning. The challenge was to use the natural amphitheatre in the hills of Lajatico and turn it into a theatre, on one condition: it had to be returned to the rural landscape immediately after the show. I remember that, back then, I even dared say I wanted to create some sort of a Woodstock of Opera, welcoming a variety of artistic experiences. In a sense, now I can say “mission accomplished”!
